faster and cheaper then a normal hdrive ? and not as expensive as a 2.5" ssd

not really sure, just noticed the feature on the motherboard. so thought id ask.

is there a reason the 2550k is not as popular as the 2500k?

From what I have read the 2550k are just 2500s with faulty integrated graphics processors, so they disabled the IGP's on them and raised the clock by 100mhz.

If you plan to run the CPU stock you gain 100mhz, if you ever intend to overclock you gain nothing.

Btw in case your wondering DIII is a GPU limited game not CPU, an i7/i5/i3/etc won't make a noticeable difference (in tests anyway) over each other (in tests a 2Ghz Phenom II X4 gave 80% of the performance a 4Ghz i5 2500K did).
