Noob Build Thread :)

The GPU just slots into the pci-e slots and is secured on the case using the screws which you removed to remove the PCI blanking plates.

Not sure what your asking in the second question, is this regards power to the card.

that is what RJC meant, they don't have screws in that case. You just pull them out.

The case should have come with all of the screws you need to attatch anything. It is the Cooler Master elite 430 isn't it?

Ah right ok! It's more just because the GFX card is really wobbly which I felt was a cause for concern. Ye it is the 430 Elite. Just thought it might need securing.

When I came to wiring it there definitely wasn't enough 4 pin molex's :( So I'm gonna carry on tomorrow night after work as really nackered. I've spent liked 4 hours on it which seems really really fail.
 
Hey, just got back to finishing off the machine. Basically - The graphics card - ATI Radeon 6950 OC has two Power outs i believe. A splitter came with it, I have one cable from the PSU that fits the graphics card, the other identical input can be plugged in to by the usable splitter.

Now the problem I have is the splitter splits in to 3 x 3 Pin molexs. All of the females from the PSU are for 4 pin, will it damage the card plugging in the 3 pins into a female 4? pin?

What PSU are you using, as it should have enough not to worry about using the molex converters.
 
I'm using the PSU that came with the elite 430, the 500w coolermaster one. There is not a single 3 pin molex on there :O I believe the power supply on the 6950 is called an auxiliary port? It's a little 6 pin port. The problem is there is 2x those and only 1 cable from the PSU.

The card came with a splitter - which goes to 3 molex's. Haha it's such a stale mate.

However there is only one plug from the PSU that fits. One thing included with the card was a splitter for that port, it splits to 2x 3 Pin molexs. However yet again no connectors.

Yeh that's it! Only thing is it's only got 3 pins haha :( The one that came with it anyway. If I buy that adapter will it effectively be the same as plugging in 1x PCI Express 6 pin. So I'd need 2 adapters for the whole card? Meaning 4x 4 Pin Molex's?
 
The adapter which come with the card will be fine plugging into the molexs from the psu.

So you will use one PCI-E cable from the PSU and one molex to PCI-E adapter cable.

Ah right ok! I'm just really worried because the adapter that came with the card has 2 ends each with 3 pins. But there plugging in to somewhere with 4 holes. I really don't fancy messing up the card, so your sure this is fine?
 
The 4th slot is the 5v line which the gpu's don't use, the molex are keyed to be inserted one way.
 
Hey all sorry to keep digging this thread back up haha.

I'm seem to be struggling with this whole build malarkey, I'm just an idiot I think.

Anyway everything's all plugged in now and it powers up etc however, when I turn it on all the fans come on seems fine but it won't 'boot' at all the display doesn't pick up anything.

Being completely new to this as you can imagine its very daunting, having a computer that doesn't boot haha... I think there is at least one plus to this lol, there is a warning light. So everything starts fine as I say but the 'DRAM LED' flashes continuously on the Mobo.

In the instruction booklet for the Mobo it says - "DRAM LED check the DRAM in thh sequence during motherboard booting process. If an error is found, the LED next to the error device will continue lighting until the problem is solved. This user-friendly design provides an intuitional way to locate the root problem within a second."

Doesn't seem to be very intuional for me hahah! So ye, this may seem obvious to others and apologies for my consistent ignorance but any ideas how I can remedy this.

I've already tried moving the Ram positions and trying one stick etc, still nothing.

Have you tried a CMOS reset, sometimes this helps and checked with both memory modules individually.

Also are all power connections in including the 4 pin for cpu power.
 
I have indeed tried a CMOS reset. Yep, checked both memory modules individually. As far as I'm aware all of the power is in. I have 3 to the mobo directly, 2 to gfx card, hdd etc. :S

I'm so puzzled.

Last bump, as it does seem quite complex and ya'll may be out of ideas.

Tried it again last night, both sticks of ram - swapped positions, tried running just 1 with each piece. Also tried turning it on with the GFX card out still nothing :/ All it does is power up, no boot,
