i have - OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)

running in XP home edition in the OcUK IP35 Pro motherboard

at startup it recognises the Ram in dual channel mode (all 4GB) but in XP it only comes up as 3.25gb

any ideas guys. thanks

To address all 4 GiB you need a 64-bit OS. Technically speaking a 32-bit OS should be able to address all of it, but due to the way some motherboards and most OSes operate the upper portion of that memory is allocated to other things, especially the graphics card's RAM.

32bit OS such as XP pro, home, vista 32bit can only see 4GB of memory in total, this includes the memory on your graphics card and other devices as well as the ram.

to fix the problem you need to purchese a 64bit OS

wow fast replies. thanks a lot guys.
