Noob in distress =[ Noob help overclocking my 6300

***Update***
Managed to get my cpu on stock volt's but my ram need's to run at 2.0V or it won't boot.
Can't overclock passed 465fsb, So I'm guessing i would need to slacken my ram timming's to go further?

Put the RAM back on AUTO and just test out the processor. There's nothing wrong with a little more voltage and I think your RAM is safe at well over 2.1V.

nice oc m8, i wish i had a e6300, my d might be clocked higher than yours, but i only get about 37 secs, really it is heat holding this chip back, if i had water then i could esaily get it to 4gigz, but tbh i would rather keep my zalman and get a e6300 sumtime in the future LOL

you get 50c load i get 50c idle lol, bout 65-70 load LOL, good thing intels are better with heat

I appear to have hit a brickwall, can't get passed 470 fsb.I can boot into window's but as soon as i run a stress test i get a error.Tryed super PI and it fail's the first loop so i guess that mean's its the cpu at it's limit?I tryed again at 1.37v with no luck.Still though I'm very happy with 3.22ghz :D i'm still stunned at the diff in battlefield 2  run's at a solid framerate now, I alway's assumed it was my 7800gtx not up to the job
Anyway,Thankyou again WJA96, you've helped me gain some confidence in the overclocking area :D

Not at all, now you have to decide how much voltage you're going to give it!

Try 1.4V on the CPU and add 0.1V on the RAM to be sure. If that doesn't work then I would probably accept that you've hit the limit. But do try it again in a month or so's time.

The other thing is - even if you can't get it to stress test in windows - make sure you get a 'suicide shot' out of CPUz to prove you could boot into windows with a 76% Overclock!!!

It's an e-penis thing ;)

3.33ghz failed ORTHOS after 10 mins
cpu 1.4
Ram 2.2
480*7

So I've gone back to 3.22ghz, Will try again in a month or to like advised

10 minutes? I know people who would call that stable ;)

An 80% overclock on air must be one of the highest moderately stable clocks I've heard of. You should definitely submit your results to the Weescott 'Only Major Overclockers Should Apply' thread.

You should look up the other guy (jongeeone) that was posting he couldn't get a decent overclock and send him your BIOS settings as he posted this afternoon that he was still stuck at default.

Excellent effort on your part! Have you dropped the voltage back? It will help long-term if the chip doesn't run hot.

Yea droped my coltage back to stock now
I run super PI at 3.4ghz got 16.984s but it only lasted 6 mins in ORTHOS
I will be happy to lend jongeeone a hand :)

'kin 'ell!!!

My 3.2GHz E6600 does it in 16s dead. That's phenomenal. The RAM is very important in SuperPi though and it looks like yours is the cream of some already very good RAM.

Hey Sniper

I've got the same GeiL RAM as you - I'm sure it is designed for 2.1v stock. On previous threads most people oc'ing have them running at 2.2v. Depends if you still want more or not :p

Lol just my mate has drumed it into my head that high voltage's kill
This is the first time I've ever messed with bio's setting's :D
The only other cpu I've overclocked is a AMD 3500+ (Venice) and only managed to get 2.4ghz out of that

You right, GeiL is rated 1.9-2.3v
I can't seem to give my ram 2.3v
In the bio's under PC health it say's DDR18V failed when i run at 2.3v and refuses to boot(I left ram timming's on auto).Using 2.2V it say's DDR18V OK.Any idea's?

PS
Just been having a look in the DS3 manual and it say's
Current Voltage(V) Vcore/DDR18V/+3.3V/+12V
-Detect system's voltage status automactically.
