noob mistake

I have recently purchased a netgear WGR 614 wireless cable adator which works fab with my current ntl broadband setup.

However, Mrs Snail has decided that are moving to an area with no cable coverage so I will need to get an ASDL braidband line....I understand that as what I have is cable router with no ASDL capacity then I will need to buy a new router. Is this the case and I will have to "bin" my two week old router or is there a way around this?

No, you can still use your netgear. You will need (or be possibly be provided by your ISP) a ADSL modem. You can plug the modem into your router.

Not unless the new ISP is giving giving away ethernet adsl modems (quite rare). A few will give you a new router though

Using my Cable/DSL router with an ADSL connection after moving house Got a ADSL modem though & that's connected to WAN port on router Shares the net ok & had no issues. But considering investing in a proper ADSL Modem Router

Thanks all, that is really useful. I will pick my new provider carefully, might even get a free router or at the least try the current router.

I'm curious, do you have a USB WAN port or a ADSL modem with RJ45 ? It's just the first is almost unheard of and the seccond is rare so i'd be interested in what you've got ?

Have a look on the bay, quite a few ADSL/ethernet modems on there, e.g. early BT Voyagers.

Or you can do what I did a while back and buy a cheapy ADSL router (e.g. Orego, Billion etc.) and just use it with a decent DSL router. Takes a bit of fiddling to set it up but it works fine.

Don't think there's any Cable/DSL router with a WAN port that accepts USB
