Noob needs help... Buying prebuilt or building own?

I spose you can save a few quid if you purchase the i5-2500k this weekend since its on offer.

Just keeping you updated.

Question, would it be wise to buy the "This week only" offers now and buy the rest later? Also the CPU that was mentioned being on offer today, does it go back to it's original price when they're all sold then?

Might be waiting for a bit more cash to get a bigger HDD or a better PSU

Afaik, the monitor and GPU are the only things on offer. Although the other issue is that I don't know what days I have off for delivery until Monday.

starting to question me getting the OEM version of the CPU, I'd prefer to spend the extra money and OC and fit a new cooler at a later date, or am I just being rational?

A. I don't feel confident enough installing a new cooler.
B. It only has 1 year warranty compared to 3 years with the other.
C. I won't be overclocking it straight away anyway, especially from my first build.

What ya'll think?

save 20 quid and borrow a dvd drive from another PC, you only need it for installing the OS anyway! :P get a pen drive!

Sup' might be ordering the GPU and monitor tomorrow, but should I go with the CPU with stock cooler and get rid of the other one?

Won't overclock until I feel more confident with the workings of a PC, sorry for the bumps, just want to make sure :/

go with whats in your basket.

can add a cooler later without removing the motherboard as the case has a nice big hole in the motherboard tray to access behind.

If you can afford it, go OEM + custom cooler now, reasons being
1) System will run quieter and cooler now, even when youre not OCing
2) It will save you having to take system apart and put it back together again when you do decide
3) The warranty isnt really an issue IMO, if the chips going to fail its likely to either be DOA or go very quickly, generally once up & running they keep going

The main reason behind it is that I don't want to give myself to much to do with my first build, money isn't the problem as it only makes about a £2 difference to the price anyway.

Having seen a video of a cooler being installed I think I could do it, but it's just a really really tough choice!

I mean, what's the hardest part of building one anyway?

add it later, like I said, it can be fitted without taking the board back out.

Indeed it can, but it's a lot more fuss for a novice (:p) and someone who isn't very confident.

Heck, if I was him with my experience I'd still buy the aftermarket cooler now. Just not worth the hassle of removing, cleaning, reapplying TIM, fitting cooler, sorting cables again.

With the stock cooler, do you pretty much have to do everything that you would do with an after market cooler?

Because if so I'd go for the after market one, because if it's the same in term of difficulty then there's no problem.

But I assume that the stock cooler is easier to fit. Because that's how I roll.

Hmmm, and is it a really complicated process to take it out and fit a cooler? although if I'm honest, I'm on a 2.00ghz laptop, I might not have the need to OC, in the future I might decide to.

Apologies for the 20 questions of course.

Screw it, I will go with the stock cooler for now, going to buy this on Tuesday at the latest if my money hasn't gone in tomorrow, if it's not in on Tuesday I have to get the deal only stuff for now and cry to my bank as to why it's not gone through yet.

It's quite easy to remove itself - the phaff is the cabling, taking it out of case, removing TIM, re-applying TIM, fitting another cooler

The other cooler has TIM on it doesn't it? So I'd just have to remove it from the CPU, I dunno, I just don't want to do loads for my first build and not even overclock it, it's still a very tough decision I guess.

But I guess with the aftermarket, I'm just fixing it on and that's it I guess, but that's the same with the other cooler.

The thing that makes this a hard choice is that it's not even a hard choice to make, there's no much downfall of each option, apart from spending more money if I chose the stock, but I might not even OC it.

But then I might do in the future... -_-

So money hasn't gone through, I guess I have until Tuesday at midnight to buy the stuff with the new deals? I want it by Thursday as I have a day off, but if the money isn't in by then I'd have to wait to buy the rest of the stuff later.

Oh many thanks to the banking system!

Tell me about it! Hate chasing cheques so damned much!

I would seriously get OEM 2500k and fit the stock cooler now.

You will overclock it at some stage - extra performance for free, also means won't have to upgrade for longer :p

It's actually £18 more expensive to get the OEM + Cooler :P

However seeing the cooler getting fit it seems rather straight forward, I will make my decision before buying it I guess, but the aftermarket cooler does seem to be a good choice for the future, whereas the stock is a good option for now.

There's no real drawbacks for either because I'd be spending the extra cash now or in a few months time.

But if my money isn't in tomorrow I'd have an extra week to dwell on it, but then I'd have a GPU and screen sitting next to me doing nothing -_-
