Hello All.

I have spent the last 3 hours attempting to set a crude network between my two laptops. I have some MP3's on my old laptop which i want to get on my new laptop. I have managed to network the two, but I can only ping the second laptop about 33 % of the time.

When I am transfering music, I get the message the the network address is now unknown ( something like that ), so I assume that the connection is being dropped.

It is a simple set up via crossover cable.

Can anybody shed any light on this ?

Thanks for your help

Simon

should just need to use a crossover cable between them and if this is all you have you definantly shouldnt be getting any dropped packets. whats the make and model of your old laptop? i have an old dell c400 and the network card is pretty crappy giving me dropped packets quite often

you have any security enabled on either of the computers and have you enabled simple file sharing ???
