Noob question. Caddy HDD wont work

Hi all

I have just got a 1.5TB Samsung Spinpoint to back up stuff from laptop, it plugs into a sharkroon caddy and USB into laptop. Put drive in and laptop recognises it with a icon in bottem right (safley remove hardware) however in my computer there is no hdd? What am I doing wrong? Do I have to stick it in a PC 1st to format it? My other 500gb hadd works fine in this caddy.

In disk management it recognises disk in there. I go through the format procedure, and then when you click ok for it to formate I get this error

The operation could not be completed because the disk is not initialized.

Any ideas?

An initialized disk option? If there is I cnat find it. Any ideas where it is? Never had such a problem before.

Did a Quick format and comes up fine in disk management, but still cant get it on my computer? Any idea? Please dont say I have to do a full format as that seems to want to take 300 hours!!!

All setting look same as when I plug another hdd in. I calle dteh Volume Just my name and then tryed G: and still nothing. Formatted as NTFS.

Id love to say. I changed volum name to Y: and turned off and on again and worked. Tho cant belive that was the problem
