You don't buy fans as 'intake' or 'exhaust', they're exactly the same physically, their function just depends on which way round you mount them.

Most fans will have an arrow on the rim showing the air flow direction. If you get one that doesn't, it's not too difficult to test by holding your hand in front of each side while it's powered on :p

Generally speaking you'd put intake fans at the front/bottom/side, and exhaust at the rear/top.

I have read putting a fan on the side disrupts airflow.... i dont know, i can really put a comment on how that would disrupt airflow -_- but i am a noob therefore my knowledge aint greater then others. I just read it in a forum and the guy never provided an explanation what do you think?

It depends what case you are using and what existing fan setup you already have.

In my old setup using an antec 1200 I had a side fan which cooled my gpu, it did not disrupt my airflow at all, in fact it helped drop my overall system temperature.

Same, my side mounted 120mm is fully focused on my GPU's, and I can't say I've noticed any airflow disruption.

As for your fan direction you can usually tell by just looking at the fan blades, the blades will 'scoop' in one direction, this is usually the direction of the airflow.

I am using the CM 690 II DOMINATION no it ADVANCED i cant remember one of the two, my fan format goes as follow, 1 140mm fan on the front, 2 120mm fans on the base, 2 140mm, and 1 120mm fan on back exhauster. ALS0 not forgetting an 120mm fan cpu taking in air from the RAM, indirection to the rear end fan!

That sounds fine, also having 50/50 intake exhaust is not always possible, if like me you end up with more intake than exhaust just make sure to invest in some dust filters.

As long as they're mounted in the right direction, that sounds like a fairly cool case to me!

Eh?? Is that not the wrong way round?

Negative air pressure (i.e. more exhaust than intake) is the system that's a nightmare for dust. With positive air pressure (more intake than exhaust) it's not normally as much of a problem!

hold on, what it i have 3 intake/exhaust will i have a issue i was planning in investing in dust filters anyway they are perfect for cutting the cleaning proceeder by a few :)

you want either the same number (and size) of intake and exhaust fans, or 1 extra intake fan. as other have said negative pressure is a bad idea

i've got a CM storm enforcer, with a 200mm intake in the front, 200mm exhaust in the top. my power supply is isolated so doesn't affect airflow in the case. my cpu cooler is an H60 intaking from the back of the case. that's pretty much an ideal setup afaik :D
