Noob Question regarding ATi's and SLi mobos

Hey guys.

Just a quick noob questions, Would i be able to run my ATi XT1950X On an SLi enabled motherboard? (Bearing in mind i won't add another ATi card, so just the one card.)

I would like to know if you can run 2 ATI cards in SLi or would that have to be in a Crossfire board ?
At the moment there is a lot of talk about the "advent" of SLi taking over the market but, surely you must use the Nvidia cards for best performance or am I totally reading this wrong ?

You would need an ATi Crossfire Motherboard to run ATi Crossfire. An nVidia nForce Motherboard is required for SLi.

I maybe wrong about this, but I may have heard that you can get hacked drivers to enable XF on an SLi board. I am not a 100% though.

I to heard that but the drivers are very old now and i think it was used on a non sli and crossfire motherboard.
