Very very stupid question, but really does niggle me, so forgive me for asking:cool:

Is DX11 built into the GPU ?

I ask this, as new ATI cards are the big DX11, but isn't the DX11 actually in the Windows itself.

So would a HD4890 not be DX11 compatible if you had Windows 7 ?

If so(I.E last line), then what is big fuss over the new cards:confused:

u need the hardware + the software, which means the hardware is a dx11 card such as a 5000 series, software is the windows 7..

HD4890 its dx10.1 only, so on windows 7 it'll only run as dx10.1.

Ah thank you for answering my stupid question, just wasn't sure. Makes my mind up about getting one of new cards when released now.

Thanks again.:)

Wait for the benchies. Although windows 7 supports DX11 and the card can run DX11, there are not any DX11 games out there atm. Until you see how these cards perform in DX9/10 games I wouldnt neccessarly rush out and get one because it can use something that isn't fully avaible yet
