I have 2 ATI 3870s atm, one is working fine, the other hasnt worked since i got it last year, still sat in box, kept restarting pc, think its overheating or something, starts up in safemode only!? just tired of trying to think what to do now, dunno if it is still under warranty, bought april last year -

What is the better of the two - and why - as im a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff

bought my current cards from OCUK, if anyone could direct me as to whether my prob with the faulty one can be resolved itd be much appreciated

Well it's usually safe to say that the bigger number implies a better card when talking about the same manufacturer (again I stress usually :p)

So in that case the 4770 would be the better of the two..
 
Well, if you think of running new card on crossfire. I'd say even 4670 would do as it'll scale up from smaller card anyway. of those 2 the 4770 memory speed is much faster it's GDDR5 on same bus wide. I think both cards generally supports same features so it comes up to speed which in 3870 crossfire case would be scaled anyway by that card.

I'd suggest getting 1 quality card instead of 2 bad ones.

I meant in terms of low heat and power usage, and dx11 as my reasoning.

He was going to run 3870's in crossfire, power is evidently not of concern to him. Most gamers couldn't care less about power consumption as long as their psu can handle the card.

Furthermore trying to use dx11 with a single 5770 would be relatively pointless as at high resolutions it's too weak. So it's not really relevant.
