Possibly a very stupid question, but as a relative networking noob thought I'd ask this question as I can't find a straight answer elsewhere!

I'm thinking of introducing a file server to my home network with the primary purpose of streaming media to my gaming rig and htpc. Would video streaming to either of these be affected if I was maxing connection on Xbox Live or similar?

Nah, there will be plenty of bandwidth.

Will be interesting when VM role out 100mb this year and it does actually make a differance! :p

HAHA!!
indeed, I was told that i was able to receive 50mb BB. Mr Virgin man arrives complaining about the location and how it took him an hour to find me, he said, i am surprised you can get any Virgin service here.

Went on for months saying we are too far out of the real world, long story short, Virgin had to lay a line just for me and claimed i would get a full 50mb...
24mb is what im connected at. Not ADSL+2. thats Fiber :S
