Hello all. I know nothing at all about graphic manipulation, or image editing so be nice! :)

I've got this image:

Unfortunately it's 500 X 182 and I want to make it 400 X 75 so I can use it as a sig on these forums. I've tried using Preview, iPhoto and Gimp. Not to mention some other program I downloaded that I can't quite remember the name of.

Every time I try and resize this image in any of the above programs I'll set the width as 400, but then It'll keep changing the height to something like 125 which is no good for these forums.

Is there any way I can just force it to use the dimensions I want?

Cheers in advance.

Yes, you need to turn of proportional resizing so that you can resize each dimension individually.

Like that, the trouble is that it's squashed so out of proportion to the original image. That version as a .png is also well over 20k.

i was in the middle of doing this for you was well but had to go out but it looks like Feek has already done one for you but as i already had it in PS i thought i might as well post it hope you don't mind Feek.

if you use it store it on your own online photo album please so i can take it off my account, let me know when you have.

Thank you very much for the replies. Thanks Tony, you can take that off your hosting now and I'll upload it myself.

Feek, thanks for having a go at that, I can see it's clearly been distorting by the resizing there. I guess that a professional package such as Photoshop is needed to resize without the distortion?

:)
