Noob to the 920 DO Overclocking

Failed to boot , BSOD on 3.5ghz 1.085v

Booted and testing 3.5ghz 1.1v in bis but 1.088 v according to cpuz

EDIT: just BSOD after 4mins smallfft on prime 95

well ive set it to 1.125v in bios and its showing 1.112 in cpuz

1 worker failed 35mins prime95 ive reset to stock speed 2.67 and undervolted to 1.008 as i need ot get stuff installed. Ill have a session at the chip tomorrow

Yeah, no worries.

A very easy overclock, just increase the blck speed to 200 for a 4ghz CPU. No need to go up a little at a time etc.

this is the worst advice i have ever read

i am very sorry but there is no way that would work

I may be noob but ive read enough to know oc to 5ghz isnt that easy lol

Tomorrow ill have another stab at a low volt 3.5hghz

I have been doing a rather dirty overclock though

at 3.5ghz

1.096v bsod after 12 mins prime
1.112v 1 worker stopped at 35mins

I think im getting close 3.5ghz

Ideally im hoping i can hit 4ghz under 1.2v

If anyone has any settings i can try for 4ghz on p6td with corair dominator 1600mhz that would be great

Prime95'd my 1.008v stock last night and stable after 6 hours temps no higher than 46

This is what im using for 4ghz (4050mhz) on my i7 920 p6t dlx v2.

Though on the 2nd screenshot ive since disabled cpu spread spectrum and pcie spread spectrum. Theese wil give you an average idea of settings required, your own kit may need lower/higher voltages.

Hybrid, I've always found it's best to start at say 1.3v vCore for 4GHz, and if that's stable then start lowering vCore by 1 increment and test for stability.

Keep repeating this process until your o/c becomes unstable. Once it becomes unstable just raise the vCore back up to where it was last stable again..

Are you only playing around with vCore atm, or are you adjusting Vtt as well?

Well, my 920 is running 4ghz at auto voltage no worries. I just punched in the blck change and that was it.

This I7 overclocking guide recommends voltage settings etc if needed. (edit: for a C0 I7)

My CPUz as evidence!

That voltage is way too high for 4ghz using a D0 chip. The problem is that most guides were written for the C0 chips which needed higher voltages.

What kind of temperatures do you get with 1.4v?

Good point Helios, this is the CPU used in the review;

Intel Core i7 920 (45 nm, 2.66 GHz, 4x 256 KB L2 and 8 MB L3 Cache, TDP 130 W, Rev. C0)

I guess that's why the auto setting took me to 1.416v rather than the 1.5v in the toms hardware guide, (I have a D0 and a P6t deluxe mobo). Temps are around 60C at idle with a very low speed fan setting on a fenrir cooler.

I can also add that 1.3v would be a good starting point for the 4Ghz overclock. Mine currently sits at 1.314v in CPU-Z for reference.

60 at idle . That's insane. Auto setting will always take the voltage to around 1.4ish volts. I'd lower that if I were you. As mentioned by other people, use 1.3v and work from that.

Thanks Helios, 1.3v gives 55C idle and 80C at load, (low fan speed on the Fenrir). Sorry to interupt your thread Hybrid, hope you find the discussion useful.

Lol no probs its all a leanring curve. I was gonna have a play with it today but i cant be fussed at the moment. Mines just sat at stock but undervolted.

Stock voltage is 1.192 Mines running at 1.008 happy as larry and will run on 0.96v at stock stable after 6hrs prime.

Currently sat at 33 29 35 30 idle
