The idea seems very appealing to me but I have no wood work skills oh well. Does anyone know a good website for noobs with this intrest?

i could be going mad but iirc there was a thread were VIRII was intrested in making one of these, never knew if he actually went ahead with it but some guides were posted, contact him to see if he has the links

I've not built it yet, I have played around with various aspects of the internals though.

I was looking to build a small one for my daughter but the wife's not keen on the room it'll take up and with daughter number 2 due very soon I have much decorating to do instead.

The cabinet is basically MDF with internal battening. It really is not something that requires much experience to make as a bare cabinet.

Getting nice graphics etc is expensive and difficult, although printing them yourself onto paper and sticking them on is possible.

I have a bunch of links on my home PC. Contact me via my trust email and I'll send them on to you.

GordyR made a gorgeous cabinet - give him a nudge.

You can buy ready made panels to glue together as well. Beware though the MDF is REALLY heavy by the time it's a 7 foot cabinet lol.

hasnt GRXMovistar (that could be spelled so wrong) made a bunch of these? his were awesome IIRC

On a side note... Does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram or cheeper version of the x-arcade USB cable? The official uk distributer wants flipping £30!!!

It isn't just a usb cable it goes through a keyboard emulator.
You can strip an old USB keyboard out for the emulator ....

Or if you want a arcade cab with less hassel , you could buy a Jamma Cabinet from an auction site and use a jpac from http://www.ultimarc.com/ which will convert the signals from the jamma harness into ones that the pc can understand so you can use the cabinets joysticks, and also you can fit the arcade vga from the same site to use the monitor on the cabinet. Throw in a pc and your good to go :)

Lol I wouldn't know where to start on a wood cabinet. :p
Finally i can advise my R Type co-named forum goer.

"Step 1: Start from the bottom."

Step 2 is still in development.

Many thanks my "non R-type" co-named forum goer. I shall bare this in mind.

However... Is this advice specific to the building of a wood cabinet or is it more general than that. It seems to me that step 1 could be highly applicable to many situations. ;)
