I started a thread about replacing my AMD64 X2 5000 Black (2.6) with a AMD64 X2 6000 (3.0) as that is the highest CPU my ageing shuttle can take, but was advised to overclock what i have.

The question is where to start the overclock, i know what im doing with PC's and repair and so on all the time, but not ever tried overclocking for one reason or another, anyone wanna point me in the right place of where to start and what things to tweak first. Full Spec below

SN68PTG5 Shuttle - Windows 7 Professional
AMD64 X2 5000 Black - BFG GeForce 9600 GT
WDSE16 500GB SATA-II - 4GB Crucial DDR2 PC2-5300

Overclocking happens in the bios. You can google a few tutorials but basically it's first increasing the FSB (front side bus) in little steps of 1mhz or 5mhz. Then when it becomes unstable you can up the cpu voltage a bit but not to much. Just take it slow. I recommend you google some overclocking tutorials on google as there is much more to understand and know about.

I'm not sure overclocking in a shuttle case is the best thing to do though... any other people share the same thought?

OK Thanks Vir, i will have a little look on my lunch break and see what google gives, if anyone recommends a simple guide please say.

I was wondering then if to just grab the 6000 that sits at 3.0ghz?

your biggest problem is going to be heat in a shuttle, the 6000 is a winsor core which really hot you will be best of getting the 6000 brisbane runs a little cooler being 65nm and stock 3.1.
Does you motherboard let you chnage vcore i have a 6000 brisbane here that run in mine at 1.2v at stock:)

Yeah that's exactly what I meant... the shuttle is not a case for overclocking :)
