Hi All

I am a noobie.. I have just upgraded my kit to the following:

Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P
Samsung SpinPoint 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Sapphire X1900XT 512mb PCI-E Graphics Card
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional 7.1 Soundcard
Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W

Do I need to overclock this machine? I will be playing at 1366 x 768 on a Samsung HDTV 32". I would like to be able to play all latest games on max settings.

If the answer is yes, where do I start?

In my opinion you do not need to overclock any of those components at this time to get an enjoyable experience at 1366x768.

I would take the time to build your rig and get used to everything running at stock. Then if you want to start overclocking start reading some guides, particularly relating to your DS3 motherboard, check forums like overclockers and xtremesystems.org, get a good solid grounding in overclocking, find out what problems people have had on the DS3 boards, and then start dabbling.

You should be able to bump your fsb to ~350mhz (3.15ghz) without touching any voltages with the e6600.

That's the best place to begin.

And there's a couple of very good DS3 threads in the Motherboard forum too.

I am in a very similar predicament..?

I have an E6600
Asus Asus P5N32-E SLi 680
Corsair 6400 2x1Gb
BFG 8800GTX OC2
Corsair 620 psu
Samsung spinpoint 500Gb

Running on my sammy 32" as my gaming/htpc

Is it going to be worth OCin the cpu? Will i see any noticable gains??
Or would it be wiser to just do it at a later date to prolong the life of the unit
Runs like a dream atm...

Well you have a wealth of information right here in these forums. Spend some time with your rig running normally (stock) and use the search function or just flick through the forums reading any posts regarding overclocking.

As you read about other peoples experiences you will be able to reverse-engineer their settings and apply them to your system, but the best advice I can offer you is to be patient, take your time reading and then its ok to ask questions for points that aren't clear :)
