I got a Core2duo pc, and the ram came with it was DDR 533, 1gig (512x2)

I want to add additional ram to it, if I get two 512 DDR 800 ram and put into the other two empty sockets, will it be ok? Will it be any compatibility issues?

The reason for this, is just when I test run vista, the computer gets slow sometime, also, photoshop is not working too smoothly.

many thanks for your advise.

btw. I don't mind run my pc on its default speed. I don't need to over clock.

The additional RAM will run at the lowest speed, so it'll all run at 533. If your not overclocking it'd be pointless anyway.

It should work but your best getting matched RAM (I mean even having the dual channel pairs the same manufacturer/model), Athlon 64/X2 systems are especially fussy but Core 2 Duo is prolly less so but I'm not sure.

bit of a waste getting DDR800 (unless its same price as DDR533)

it should work fine but you might need to place the slowest stick in slot 1 to get the machine to boot - usually the lowest SPD setting will be used but sometimes (probably depends on exact combination) the default SPD from the stick in slot 1 (sometimes known as dimm0) is used.

If your worried about that I'd suggest selling the modules you have now and buying a 2x1GB kit, cos 2x 512MB modules will continue to be a burden to you (and harder to shift) as RAM gets larger.
