I've amplified this image in PS to show you what I've done tonight when trying to clean the sensor. I'm used to dabbing a couple of drops of eclipse fluid on a pecpad then use the swab to run the pac along the sensor as instructed. Done this for years and not had a problem.

Tonight is the first time I've cleaned the 5D3 sensor though and the fluid has left blobs running across that you can see and as such these show up in images faintly above f4.

Is sensor cleaning on full frame slightly different then or is the 5D3 sensor front layer protector of a different material or something?

I imagine I'll have to take it into LCE and get them to clean it properly now as the splatter pattern is dried fluid blobs.

I would have thought another clean and then making sure it doesn't leave too much on after would do the trick?

I tried that but I used the last 2 pecpads up. On each one the fluid just left streaks, like as if the surface was way too slippery for the fluid to work on. I'll see how much it costs for LCE to clean it then buy some pre-moistened sensor swabs I think.

Today I found a small hair through process of elimination determined it was either on or behind the focus screen.

In trying to rocket blow it out I created two scratches by accidentally touching it. No impact on shots or performance but annoying of course.

Going to send it on Monday to a CSC to sort....seems pretry easy to change yourself but dont want to risk it.

Ouch!

I've just ordered Visible Dust 1.0x Sensor Cleaning Kit and a Giottos rocket blower, total £23 ¬_¬

I bought 100 pec pads and a bottle of 59ml (yes, 59ml...2Oz) of eclipse fluid, will last years. The best way to do it really, most economical.

Yes same here, the last few pecpads I used today were bought years ago and the fluid bottle has mere drops left!

My sensor swab was for APS-C size though so I think maybe that's why it left drops.

The 1.0x swabs should do the trick :)

I have the pads and fluid theyre really useful.

Despite all the manic rocket blowing the hair remained so I would have sent to CSC anyway. Now therrs the risk they wont do under warranty and rightfully so but lesson learnt...

Khan I have been using eclipse fulid for like 8 years and whilst I was working in a studio the guy asked me to clean his mark 4 1D with this £100+ cleaning kit that includes the scope so you can see the crap. Anyways I tried to clean it and i kelp doing exactly what you are showing. smere marks and drops. I thought **** Ive made this so bad he's gonna kill me but I always had no issues using eclipse on my 40D. So I brought that stuff in and boom cleared straight up. It had better evaporation than this other stuff I used.

Its also worth noting I used the pads that were sold with my eclipse. They seemed loads loads better.

Aye iI watched a video of a very cool guy cleaning the 5D Mk2 sensor and he used the swabs which worked brilliantly hence why I ordered them too and a rocket blower!

I hate rocket blowers, its fine on the outside of the lens but never on the sensor. 2 out of 3 times I end up adding more crap into the sensor with the blower than take away dust so what is the point.

Do you hold it upside down? This is the video I watched:

Also Johnny|lucidcomposure yeah I too was confused as the pecpads + fluid + swab was fine on the 40D but the swab size is smaller of course :p

Focus screen can be bought for like £30 for the 5Dii (what camera you got?) and takes 10 seconds to change.

Clean, i dunno? there should be a fix fee.

I use APS-H size pads on my 1Ds2, I should get the proper size but meh...
