NOPE

i was expecting to hate it but its a solid 5.5/10 - its was 'fine'.

The second half is definitely the worst half.
Characterisation is particularly bad - why exactly am i supposed to care about these characters? especially the sister.
The music was pretty crap as well and didn't create an tension whatsoever.

I remember some critics calling it 'Jaws in the sky' but honestly it doesn't deserve to be anywhere near that classic.

Got a free cinema tickets through work so thought I'd give this a go. I'm glad I didn't pay.
I thought it was beautifully shot garbage. Daniel K looked bored throughout. He's a great actor but from anyone else I'd say he was phoning it in. I have no idea why he decided, or was directed, to play the character like that.
Keke just annoyed me. Her character was horrible. The camera guy was ridiculous and his final decision made zero decision. The only one I liked was Angel.
The flashbacks, whilst well done added nothing to the story IMO and could've easily been cut.
The only good points were the cinematography, the part where the arena lights were turned back on and the view of the people "inside".
Not something that I'll ever watch again.
"Get out" was great, "Us" I thought ridiculous and this was just a huge disappointment. Not a good track record. I know it's subjective but that's my view on Peele now.

5.5/10 - wouldn't watch again.

Good cinematography crap story. I watch movies more for the latter. Weird storyline. Not good weird, but weird weird. 1st hour was promising .

Can't believe Daniel K chose to be in this over the forthcoming Black Panther movie.

Get out 9/10
Us 7/10
Nope 5.5/10

Going in the wrong direction.

$4 million he got paid Black Panther would have paid a lot less

Just a big sigh from me. The movie has good ideas, but it's put together and delivered to the audience in a horribly contrived way, as to make it seem smarter than it is. The writing and dialogue feels like it's done by an amateur but with a lot of confidence, if that makes sense. There's zero characterisation and growth. I actually thought there was something wrong with OJ, he just slowly walks around as if he's had a stroke from the beginning of the movie to the very end. Then there's his younger sister, who looks to be in her 30's, but acts like a 12-year-old spoilt brat. Then shop clerk guy randomly appears with no real introduction and just gets involved. They exchange the most random, weird dialogue, have utterly bizzare takes on whats happening... and this isn't the worst part for me.

It's the character's motivations and actions that gets me. It just undermines the whole movie, and how utterly shallow it is.

They've discovered a man-eating flying alien monster above their house. It's killed their father, it's killing their horses (livelihoods) and it wants to kill them. So instead of getting out and seeking help, something they can very easily do at anytime, they decide to capture a video of it for money. That's it. Then they go about it in the weirdest, riskiest way possible and all the while the director's trying to build suspension as if it's a life and death situation like something from Tremors where they're trapped. It doesn't work.

Then there's the gaping holes in the plot, like why the alien treated OJ differently at the end for no good reason. I'm guessing its something to do with animal wrangling and management, but it's so stupid and inconsistent. He doesn't do anything other victims of the monster haven't already done. The rules of the movie just change randomly so the story can progress.

As for the Chimpanzee thing. It reeks of contrived, film-student type ****. If the idea DID work at some point, it's pulled down completely because Ricky is a non-character that doesn't matter at all to the story. If they had applied the story to Emerald's character, OJ's sister, where she was the one who had the experience, that MIGHT have explained some of her weird behaviour. Like she was the one who wanted to break away from her father's ranch, she had a budding acting career when she was younger that was cut short in a horrible event, and now leaves her and OJ with a strange relationship given that she thinks her father liked him more etc. But it didn't and it doesn't.

The movie's a 4.5/10 for me, I never want to see it again. As I said, some good ideas and creepy scenes
The digestion scene was actually really horrific, and how you can hear the screams of people inside as it's flying around was unsettling.
It could have been so much more with a competent script and better dialogue. Jordon Peele seems like one of those guys with great ideas but needs help steering the ship IMO.

If you're wondering about going to see it, I'd save money and wait for it to come out on a streaming service.

2/10

That’s gonna be a nope from me dawg. Rubbish story and characters.

Why did Daniel Kaluuya look like he had a stick up his arse the whole time?

Although I enjoyed the movie I didn’t like his performance either. I suspect Peele saw his role in Queen and Slim and told him to do the same, but more.

Q&S is an amazing movie, by the way.

Unbreakable was his best film though.
This felt more like a rip off of Signs ( which was good), only so bloody slow.
Perfect analogy, even similar themes in the film!

For me M Night Shymalan has more hits than misses. No big deal if Jordan Peele is the new M Night and has a few flops here and there.

I quite enjoyed Nope.

I really hated the female lead though, highly annoying.

Me and the Mrs reckon it had quite a few nods to 2001 space Odyssey which were pretty clever.

Started out alright but progressively got more boring really. Just didn't believe that the object was particularly horrifying or anything. Just weird.

Didn't enjoy it at all really.

Too many random questions hanging and I'm not really bothered about them being answered, I'm guessing most of them don't even have an answer, I feel like they just threw random stuff in to keep people talking.

Meh.
