Nordschleife 2011

I went a couple years ago, swore I wouldn't do another lap in my own car after that but... I'm interested in this ;)

do we have a date for this? Im doing 'the italian job' rally from 21st -26th of july so provided its not then I would like to go, it seems like this might be one of the last years the ring is open so I want a chance to go on before it does!

Can I put forward a suggestion of a hotel called, the Berghotel hohe-acht.
It's five mins from the ring entrance, 3 mins from the main Petrol station (the one with the model cars). Loads of parking, loads of rooms, great food, great beer, a seriously funny owner and seriously easy to get to, but best of all one of the CHEAPEST places I've found that isn't a "hole".
It's a quiet place... until we arrive :D

Awesome view too. ;)

I know a few possible places to stay too, when we get that far :)

Can't really do anything until we set a date and can't do that until the TF days for later in the year are published (they've only announced up to the end of April so far).

Regards the comments about closure - there's no way that'll be allowed to happen, even despite all the problems there at the moment. For those not up to speed, there's been a bit of a financial crisis/scandal surrounding the new leisure development there over the past few years.

If anyone's interested, there's a documentary which explains the whole thing here:

It's in German with English subs but quite interesting and worth watching for anyone with the slightest interest in the place and its continued survival.

Seriously guys, there's no way of planning any dates at all until the TF schedule for the rest of the year is published and we have no idea when that will be.

The schedule only goes up to the end of April atm, plus they've also said the place will be closed for most of March so they can repair all the track damage the winter weather has wraught.

Right, there are provisional dates available for the year. Assuming we'd want at least two consecutive days when the track is open to the public for either the whole day or at least half of it, these are the available options from August onward:

Aug 6/7 (two full days)
Aug 13/14 (two full days)
Sep 3/4 (two full days)
Sep 11/12 (one full, one half)
Sep 16/17/18/19 (one full, three half)
Oct 1/2 (two full days)
Oct 16/17 (one full, one half)
Oct 21/22 (one full, one half)
Oct 30/31 (one full, one half)

It's also open almost every day in November but the weather will be very dicey by then.

September 16th to 19th is obviously the prime candidate here as it's the only time we'd get more than two days of full or half open track but it's likely to be rather busy as a result.

Let the discussions commence... :)

I wouldn't worry about the track opening times as the best thing about visiting Nurburg (and the surrounding towns & villages) is the restaurants, food & beer. Friendly people too.

The track is always closed because of crashes ... ever since Clarkson ruined it by asking everyone on the planet to go there to try to beat 10 mins :D

Are the dates usually as 'limited' as the provisional dates mentioned? I always had the image in my head that the track was opened for days on end and only occasionally shut off from public use. Judging by those dates the opposite seems to be the case!

Its closed to the public more than its open. They do a lot of evenings where its open for 2 hrs or so, but these often get cancelled by car manufactures to continue testing.
