Normal for A/C to make car engine run louder and have less Oomph?

I should maybe have added earlier, but when the A/C was turned on it was done so on fan level 4. I don't know if the higher setting the louder it gets but it still shouldn't be making that sound surely.

Anyway, the garage emailed me back amazingly, after work hours! Very surprised. The guy said to bring it down to them on Tuesday so I'll be going down with my dad to get it checked out! :)

Air con rad fan, or secondary cooling fan, will usually engage by default if the blower speed is set to maximum.

Should it sound like it does in my video though?

Also, would engaging maximum have more of an impact on the engine performance than say A/C setting 1?

Sounds normal to me but its difficult to say from a video. The fan will be running in slow speed continually whilst the a/c is operating.

Fan speed won't make any difference to performance. I've only been able to not notice a/c having a effect on 200+bhp cars, everything below that seems to suffer to varying degrees.

An a/c compressor can take circa 20HP to drive it, so yes, a 1600cc wheezebox will seem less powerful with the system on.

System in video sounds normal to me.

I dont think a 15kW compressor is typical for an Auto A/C systems! More like 3-4kw at peak loading.

Pulling 5kW regen on my hyrbid regenerative braking is enough to significantly slow the car, 15kW would make friction brakes close to redundant for normal road driving.
