I normally buy WD external drives and as a rule i have no issues, however i have just bought 2 x 8TB Elements and one was a helium drive and the other was not.
So talking about the Non-Helium drive just plugging this in and leaving it on (room is 22c) it's reading 52c (using crystaldiskinfo), this strike me a being a liitle high given were in the dead of winter, WD just give standard answer, within range etc. Does this seem a little hi to you folks, i ran some tests using CrystalDiskMark last night and it got up to 55c and the heat coming out the top could have kept my tea warm, should I worry about this temp?
I also have a run the same tests on the helium drive and that is topping out at 41c.

41 sounds ok to me but over 50 would give me concerns, can't say I've run drives of that size externally though.

Have used wide variety of External HDDs and the max temps I've got is 35. Not sure why yours is reading 52c. Try returning it and getting a new one
