Nortel Down The Pan...

oh ffs.. I went through two long interviews with them at the start of december for a graduate position. It was about my only hope after Cisco and IBM never even replied.

Not a good time to be leaving college =/

Given their debts, I doubt whether there will be much left by the end of the year, even after restructuring.

I seem to remember them about 6 years ago shedding the bulk of their work force in belfast. Im not suprised they are going down the pan.

worked for them few years ago in Paignton, Devon then when bookham took over them i got laid off due to them moving to China! sad seeing them going down the pan tho :(

Can't say I am surprised really. Nortel have not really moved on much recently, the likes of Cisco, Force10, Avaya, Foundry and Alcatel have long been taking a lot of business away from them.
Our network includes a lot of pretty old Nortel Optera long haul kit but we have a global project to replace a lot of it this year with Cisco kit.

didn't realise that they owned netgear. Someone else cisco is going to snap up?

never dealt with nortel stuff. Dealt with foundry stuff and it was crap

I deal with nortel every day at work.. infact, its all I do :(
Not that concerned though since im an apprentice, and most of our contacts use nortel products and will do for the foreseeable future.

Filing a Chapter 11 does not mean your company will just go into liquidation - it allows the your company some time to reorganise debts and assets and/or find someone to buy the company as a whole... However IMO, Nortel will end up being split up and sold on in parts.
