North Face Hedgehog GTX XCR

I have a pair of them, they are comfortable to wear but mine ripped along the seams after a couple of months. They also dont offer any real support so for proper hiking i would say get a mid boot.

Really did you have any trouble getting them replaced ?? do you think it is a design fault or just a one off bad luck?

I couldnt get them replaced, they said i had abused them by not using them for the purpose they were intended  Their quality has slipped in the last few years in my opinion but i might just have been unlucky.

I have heard this said of Brasher as well. This guy had the sole wear down really quick an they said he had been walking on the wrong surface

saying that my last pair of brasher lasted 6 years but I think they have changed ownership now and gone down hill. so I got these to replace my Brasher http://www.millets.co.uk/footwear/men/product/083337.html

Did you play football in them or somthing??

I have a pair of Hedgehogs and find them very comfortable. I don't go "off road" in them, I walk to work and back, 30 mins each way, in them and they're fine.

I've had them a week and no, thank god :D

Obviously longer term may show issues but hopefully not. After my walk to work today, in the pouring rain, my socks were bone dry. Shame the rest of me wasn't.

ok well I hope they hold up:) I am going to get some in the morning did you get your online and if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay?

I was also considering Merrell http://www.millets.co.uk/footwear/men/product/083146.html

Any thoughts on these ??

Paid £79.99 for mine from the Blacks shop in my town.

I did consider some Merrell Chameleon's but they didn't have the ones I wanted in my size.

I would be inclined to get a pair of Merrells if i was after another pair of walking trainers, very good quality, although mine have developed a strange squeak in the sole which is a bit annoying, but mine are about 4 years old :) They also look wierd imo lol.

I've had a pair for 18 months and use them as everyday shoes along with a bit of light hillwalking.

They're a bit tatty now but they're still in one piece and still waterproof. Can't fault them, especially seeing as I got them for £50ish.

Have a look at the Salomon XA Pro GTX trainers. I have had the non GTX version for about 5 years now, replacing them every year.

That may sound like a lot but they are worn daily as my only pair of trainers as well as used over Dartmoor, adventure racing and down the gym. Other trainers I used to have lasted about 3 months. Also other than one pair of XA comps (where the quick lace broke after about a year) the reason I replaced each pair was the inside backs and soles wearing out completely. Other than that bulletproof!

I've wanted to get a pair of GTX ones for ages but never been able to justify buying a non and GTX version.
