Oop north - where it's grim...
Hi All

Recently the Northbridge fan on my Asus A8N-E failed, so I picked up one of these to replace it.

The question is, how do I fit it? Is the thermal paste adhesive? As it doesn't seem to be on mine - it's in a tower, and it keeps falling off! Is there some sort of procedure for attaching it, or have I got a dud?

TIA

Si.

I take it the pins that held your A8n-e's northbridge fan on to the board arent long enough to go through the akasa? That would be a 'safer' bet to attach it via the four pin holes i guess...But yes i believe you can get thermal compound that will hold the fan on more securely.

Sounds like you didn't clean off all the previous thermal compound of the old HSF... the grease it contains won't allow the adhesive tape on the replacement to stick properly. Once it's got grease on it, it's basically screwed. Clean the northbridge itself thoroughly with isopropynol or similar and allow it to fully evaporate off afterwards, get some new thermal tape, and try it again...
