I turned my computer on today and after i was connected to the internet i got this norton message on the screen 'Remote system is attempting to access your computer', to which i clicked one of the two, 'permit' or 'permit always' by mistake, i am in the process of setting up a wireless network aswell. Just after i clicked it, a small taskbar icon came up in the corner, it looked like a computer with a wire coming out of each side with a small 'v' on top of the computer.

My query is, is it likely this is something from the other computer? Or the internet? Either way i want to reverse it but i can't find the point in norton security where i can, or even just check what it was? I don't want some random computer somewhere just being able to access my computer willy nilly, won't my computer keep a log of this somewhere?

Cheers

I don't know for certain, but having had some experience with Norton's in the past I suspect it's another PC on your local network if you've got file/printer sharing turned on.

It would help if it gave more information about the PC that was trying to connect (such as it's IP address).

If it was a pc/software accessing the system then it would have put itself probably in one of two places I think

Go to the configuration Options for Personal Firewall

1) Select Networking Tab and see if any new networks have been added if so remove them.

2) Select Programs. If it is a program then I would imagine it would appear here. If you know the name of the program then you can remove it from here.

Plus you haven't just installed a wireless network card when this happened? Or have a wireless NIC installed on the system that hasn't been used before.

If you right click on the icon what does it say it is?

Hope this helps.
