norton subscription expiry

no..just dont bother it really is poo

plenty of choice out there

Nod32 seems to be the AV of choice

kaspersky have offers on 3 user licence boxes if you have multiple PC's

Panda is cheap with multiple licences

but really anything is better than Norton

I like Avast! anti-virus, also free. I find AVG irritating when it pops a window up after an update.

As has been said, Norton is pants. Even after you've removed it, it will leave a multiude of rubbish in your registry. I have not found a decent method yet of removing it other than manually.

I have been using AVG Free edition on my systems, and on a few others Avast! and they have been brilliant. I prefer AVG to avast! as I feel it is always working. AVG is slightly slower with it's scans but I feel it works harder than avast! also the AVG UI is much much better than avast! I feel the avast! UI is to complicated and not very explanitary so whenever I set up a system and the client doesn't specify a AV I will install AVG for it's simplicity and its ease of use.

Regarding the Norton removal I believe Symantec have a removal tool which can be downloaded from the Norton website.

I Think AVG is excellent, update pop up is ok - only happens once when you boot. It definitely works hard though, and has always worked flawlessly, no viruses here in years! It automatically warns you about dodgy files before you open them!

I actually prefer an AV that lets you know that your AV Software has been updated, you know you are protected and the AV has started correctly.

i'm using Avast on my main PC (its the only good, free AV thats natively 64-bit)
i use AVG on my laptop because it's got a relatively small footprint, but i might get NOD32 because its miniscule.

norton just expired...is it worth renewing and if not how do i (fully) remove the software?

cheers ;)

Even if you had decided to renew Norton DON'T!

It's far cheaper to buy another copy than to renew from Norton. Prices from the Symantec site are normally DOUBLE what you can buy it for if you look elsewhere.

There is a Norton removal tool which I can see someone has already posted. I did find another tool to remove bits left behind by the removal tool but it wasn't from Symantec site. :)

Does NOT always do what it says on the tin. May leave behind licence code stuff etc.

thanks for the help guys. running the removal tool i hope it gets rid of everything. unfortunately i had no choice but to run Norton as i (stupidly) bought my machine off Mesh 2 years ago :(

Only thing with AVG is that it gives a lot of false posotives. I use NOD32 my self and I found it the best out of all the current anti-viruses. I found Kaspersky slowed down my computer but was very fast at scanning all my hard drives. But NOD32 uses little ram and it does not slow down my computer at all plus it updates everyday sometimes more than once a day. Also it is just as fast as kaspersky at scanning.

So really for a free anti-virus then AVG is the best as it does the job plus if it is giving false posotives then that means it's doing it's job. But NOD32 is where it's at for a payed subscription.

speaking from customer homes ive visited both avast and avg are rubbish, ive been to peeps homes using one or the other of those free programs and run nod32 on them to find viruses that both the free antivirus proggies never found!!!

just my 2 pence lol ;)
