Norway Gunman Was Call of Duty Fan

We all know its utter rubbish but by this time tomorrow some tool will have released a map for some game of the island and the media will have a field day :(

Waiting for the first parent to complain Battlefield 3 turned their child gay due to the 'i'm getting ****** in the ass' type comment when you're getting fired upon.

Just wait til the new Carmageddon game comes out, it will be released, there will be a fatal crash somewhere and people will blame Carmageddon

I can see it now... "Mother goes on a rampage and beats 8 chavs to death with a candle stick... the BBC can report the mother often enjoyed playing Cluedo"

Apparently he posted this online

Target practise is likely going to be a problem for many people in certain countries (urban Europeans like us, ouch. Consider taking a vacation to a country where you are able to train in marksmanship or join a gun club. Simulation by playing Call of Duty, Modern Warfare is a good alternative as well but you should try to get some practise with a real assault rifle (with red point optic) if possible. There are select 2nd or 3rd world countries that offer arrangements where you can practise with an assault rifle. Try avoiding Muslim and African countries (unless you are travelling in a group) as they are very racist/discriminating towards Europeans. There are security courses which is arranged by various security companies around the world as well. Lots of opportunities for those of us with creativity and enough cash

:/

That sounds like complete ********. Anyone whose fired a real gun knows that playing a game doesn't mean a damn thing. There is no feel for the recoil what so ever and aiming with a mouse/controller means nothing. The only thing a game could do is teach teamwork and tactics. He didn't learn how to kill almost 90 people (with what gun anyway?) on CoD.

I just bought Modern Warfare 2, the game. It is probably the best military simulator out there and it’s one of the hottest games this year. I played MW1 as well but I didn’t really like it as I’m generally more the fantasy RPG kind of person – Dragon Age Origins etc .and not so much into first person shooters. I see MW2 more as a part of my training-simulation than anything else. I’ve still learned to love it though and especially the multiplayer part is amazing. You can more or less completely simulate actual operations.

From his journal.

Man am I glad he didn't get Arma 2 instead. The bodycount would be in hundreds.

Raoul Moat- Non-COD player- 1 dead, two injured

Anders Breivik- COD Gamer- 87 dead and counting

The statistics speak for themselves- BAN EVERYTHING!!! I foresee a future very similar to the world of Demolition Man.

Yeah - games don't make people killers, they make people better killers.

....too soon?

+1

I'm starting to get really annoy. Whenever there's tragic incidents, they all seem to point violence in video games.

You know what? I'm going to kill me some people.......online = )

If anything, video games are a great outlet for frustration that prevents violence if anything. Yes, people who play games can be murderers, but they are messed up in the head beforehand- playing the game doesn't make them a murderer!

I'd love to see someone go to Afghanistan with the skills they learnt in COD! As someone who has fired the SA80 and L96 LSW I can assure you that there is no way you could learn any weapon skills or drills from COD, and certainly not tactics. If it was attempted more often, natural selection could pick off the idiots who try to do 360 noscopes from tall buildings thinking they have Commando Pro on or break the arms of those who think they can fire a Barrett at 270RPM from the hip...

Agreed. I dont have SA80 weapon drills scorched into my brain through playing video games. Firing a real weapon is nothing like in a game.

My sister has recently been studying video games violence as part of her psychology degree and pretty much all evidence points to violence in video games desensitising people. So it won't make you a mass murderer but it can make it easier, mentally, to do when you do decide to go on a rampage.
