Hi Guys,

THink im going to finally take the plunge as it seems they are now a serious replacement to the old spinning platters. Just want to make sure that there isnt going to be a huge revolution 1 month away that everyone knew about except little ol me :p

Narrowed it down to these 2, which is best or should I hold off for a month or 2?

The C300 is only faster if you have a Sata 3 port to plug it in to. On Sata2 it has a similar read speed and much slower write than the OCZ.
Add to that the extra value of the OCZ in terms of gb/£

Thanks, so it seems from those 2 the OCZ is the one to go for.

Is it OK to use something like True image to clone my curren drive onto the new SSD or do i need to do a clean instal onto it. Just wondering if it needed a clean instal so win 7 knows its a sdd and does any special instal for it?

Not got one myself just yet, but have learned this.

Just go ahead and nackup all your stuff and then clean install Windows 7.
Ensure you select AHCI is enabled in the BIOS to get the best performance out of the SSD.
By all accounts the install will be over in a few minutes due to the speed of the drive.

It's possible to do a clone, but it involves fiddling with some windows settings that I have no idea about. Personally I would just back up your important data and do a clean install. Windows 7 optimises itself for SSD's when installed on one.

Best way I found to install was remove/unplug your current hard drive, so there's no chance of Windows picking it as drive 0. Also remember to change SATA mode from IDE to AHCI before installing.

i didn't think the c300 was any good if you had a marvell controller or something along those lines

also the c300 has a really poor write speed compared to the bigfoot

well it arrived around 3pm today. Nice and simple to install and cant believe how quick it is. Silence is a nice treat as well
