Im currently using a wireless network, connected to the internet via a router.
I have just got an xbox in my room, and would like to be able to try out the free trial of Xbox Live I have.
I have an nforce4 ultra motherboard with the LAN capabilities onboard, so was hoping to connect my Xbox to Live, by plugging the ethernet cable from my Xbox, to my wired lan port on my PC, so it can connect to the internet I recieve wirelessly by my network. Is it possible to do this, and if so can someone explain to me how to set it up, or do you need to plug the Xbox directly into the router?

Thanks,

Alex

It is possible yes, to bridge the connections together on the PC so the Xbox connects to the internet. What you'll need to do is connect the 360 into the ethernet port on your PC, and then on your network connection settings, you need to bridge the wireless connection with the ethernet connection. There's some guides / tips posted around here somewhere, and somebody will be around to help hopefully.

Hi there,

You dont need to bridge the connections, thats a red herring from davey :p

Just plugin the xbox into your pc and enable the ethernet port. It should show up as connected . Leave the connection with DHCP. Goto the properties of your wireless connection and select the Advanced tab. In there enable 'Internet connection sharing'.

It might say some things just say yes to them and hopefully now it will just work. you may have to reboot the 360 but after that it should be online.

Post back if you have any problems, I have my 360 setup like this with no probs.

How do I get DCHP setup via windows, rather than via the router, as right now, the computer itself doesnt assign IPs via DCHP, and thus when I tried that method, it wasnt connecting as the xbox/pc wasnt being assigned an IP.

Thanks

PS. Its an Xbox original, not an Xbox 360. Im not sure how much different the setup would be however.

o right, maybe that changes things, I did assume it was a 360.

Try a crossover? I dont know if its maybe required for your mobo/the xbox1.

The dhcp between them should be automatic.

Is your wifi connection manually ocnfigured and is it using windows inbuilt wifi stuff ?

Managed to get it working now :)

Had to manually set an IP for my LAN on my PC network connection, and then had to manually setup an IP for my Xbox and type in the DNS servers stuff. Have got it running through a switch I had lying around to prevent any cabling issues :)
