Hey, just finsihed my new Build, System in sig.

Installed XP which went ok but now everytime i boot my system up, when it gets to the Windows Logo it takes like 20secs to actully get on my desktop, now surely this cant be right?

My AMD Athlon 3400 loaded up quicker than this. Something must be wrong?

Chipset drivers?

Have you disabled all unused network adapters (like Firewire)? These can seriously mess up login time whilst they wait for a non-existant DHCP server to reply.

Yep i have the latest drivers. Yep i have disabled Firewire. Its not just slow on bootup, its all round performance, when for instance i load up the internet and say desktop properties.

Having a hole load of problems, just downloaded Windows Live Messanger and when it tried to install it came up with a message, "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted cabinet file.

Why why why :( :( :(

My guess would be your RAM, sound like files are being corrupted as they are transfered from the harddrive to the ram. Try giving the RAM a bit more juice or relaxing the timings and then see if you still get 'corrupt file' type messages

Yep, when i set it at 2.2 and then saved and exit, the comp turned it self of for 2 secs turned back turned back of for another 2 secs then booted into windows?
thats normal, only happens when you make FSB/or voltage adjustments in the BIOS.

Not sure whats causing your problem though?

When you overclock is one sign of a unstable system, software errors?

For example Win 32 services error?

Maybe this is a Hard Drive problem? minus weather i overclock the machine or not, i experience unusually slow response times, when clicking my computer, my documents etc....?

Sadly there is a gazillion reasons where things can go wrong but the task of a trouble-shooter is to slowly 'isolate' the problem.

If you suspect your hard disk is faulty you should be able to download and run a hard disk diagnostic, same for memory etc.

There is a slight issue with the P5B-Deluxe onboard audio drivers, where you get a slight 'lag' when clicking through folders, to test this you can either tuirn off the windows sounds in control panel or just disable the audio controller in BIOS.

Good luck!

Did you run memtest on the RAM before you installed Windows?

If not, sounds like the RAM may have issues and installed a corrupt XP installation.

I remember I had similar problem a while back with Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe where if I had USB legacy support enabled in BIOS, memtest would display errors in writing to RAM at start of test 5 or 6.

Disabling it fixed the problem and installed a nice, clean error free XP (if there is such a thing lol).

Not sure what the situation is with your board or BIOS but its definitely something to bear in mind.

Ok thanks everyone, anywhere i can get Memtest free, where i have seen it you have to pay for it?

My old AMD Athlon 3400 is quikcer than this computer, windows takes forever to install, as well as Vista, when i click the turn of, restart button it takes at least 5 secs to actully get of the desktop background. :( :(

Just tried to do a fresh install of XP and get the blue screen = Fatal Errors.

Are you for real...I think not!

Google + Memtest = FREE

If you have no FDD get the ISO and burn it to CD
