Just tried to start up my main rig (in sig) this evening and it just won't post. Starts up to fans spinning but I get nothing on screen and no response from my DVD drives and keyboard( backlit) so I know it's not got to the bios.

Disconnected all drives, reset CMOS, giggled connections and still no luck. I haven't changed anything so what could I be missing? Loads I I know but brains a bit no go this evening

Tried all mem one stick at a time and all the same, same with no mem and with some sticks of pc4200 which I had lying around.

I had a suspicion it might be the PSU so I checkedc the voltage on one of the molex connectors; as I start it up it goes to 10.5V and 3.7V on the 12/5lines respectively, then after about 50 secs they then jump up to 12/5 and the DVD drive will now open; but again no display on monitor. Any relevance or am I barking up the wrong tree. I can check bits with my htpc but that takes time and I need to keep that running during the day early eve.

After a bit more checking I've found that if i replace the 8800gt with a 6200le it will boot to bios and windows eventually, after about 60 secs warm up. It seems to start properly after the voltages jump back up ( see my above post).

Really all I've done isnarrowed it down either a dodgy gfx or psu; now I need another one to test against

have you tried installing the card in a diffrent pcie slot? it could be the slot thats casuing the trouble, even tho it worked with the older one, seems odd. as the newer one takes more power it makes me think it is the power supply and not the card.

A second possibilty is maybe its the plug you are running it from have you tried changing the cable / wall socket?

Theres only one pcie x16 slot on the board so I can't do that. The cable is a different one from usual during testing as I'm doing the testing away from its normal place in the house.

The gfx does take a 6 pin from the psu so unless that has gone and is not providing power?

Looks like I need to source a spare psu
