Offered to fix a friends PC...

Basically its not posting.

HDD and fans spin up but no beep from internal speakers and nothing displayed on screen. Swapped out the PSU and still same problem... Am I right in thinking that the MoBo is dead?

You need to go through every item to make sure...

Disconnect everything except 1 stick of ram and gfx card (use onboard gfx if you can).

If this doesn't post then swap the ram with another stick... If its still dead then its a dead cpu or mobo.

Only has 1 stick of Ram and onboard GFX Ill hunt for one to swap out

Changed the RAM and still nothing

Still nout ans Ive put a GXF card in there. Removed Bios battery Still nothing. Im thinking dead MoBo. Got nothing to test the CPU

I'd take the CPU out of the mobo and see if you get the same behaviour, then reseat it. Could still be either/or though, if you take the CPU out and get a different behaviour it'd suggest the mobo is working and it's the CPU that's damaged.

Had some very odd behavour with faulty CPUs in the past. If nothing else it's worth it just to reseat it.

Okie dokie will do that... wish me luck on removing the heatsink haha its an alkward one

Just removed CPU

Nothing connected to MoBo accept RAM
System is still the same and nothing happening.

Have you got a spare MB or CPU you can use to test with?

Sounds like mobo mate, still a small chance it's CPU also though depending on what caused the motherboard to fail.
