Just had my Asus A8N sli mobo replaced.

Fitted back into casing and inserted cards and leads as per normal. Flipped the switch on the PSU and the green light on mobo comes on.

Hit the power...... nothing...... zippo.

Im sure ive done something wrong as I dont have the original manual but Im using the manual downloaded from the asus website. Its definitely the manual for my mobo.

Any ideas?

Ill post some more details in a bit as Im taking a break away from the machine as Ive been trying to sort it out since this afternoon. Any help much appreciated :)

Power button working on the case, connected to the motherboard correctly.
Does your motherboard have a seperate power button on the motherboard, which you can try.

Possible faulty PSU.

Rob :)

Hi Rob,

Ill check the power button connection. Could have got it wrong I suppose.

If the PSU is faulty would the green light on the mobo still come on?

It's hard to say, when my PSU blow up before xmas my motherboard still showed the green power light but nothing happend when trying to power up, I even removed the PSU and shorted the pins out (14 & 13) with one fan connected and nothing.

Hi,

Heres what my machine consists of -

Antex Plusview 1000AMG Fileserver Case
Enermax Noisetaker 535W ATX 2.0 Sli
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+(939)
GeIL 2GB PC3200
Asus A8N Sli nforce4(939)
OcUK Geforece 7800GT 256MB GDDR3
Seagate SATA I 80GB(MASTER)
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 250GB SATA II(SLAVE)
NEC DVD-RW 16x16
Arctic Freezer 64 cooler

I have taken the whole rig apart again. Removed the original AMD stock heatsink and fan along with the retention bracket and backplate from the mobo.

Fitted the retention bracket and backplate for the Freezer 64, applied arctic silver 5 thermal compound thinly to surface of processer after cleaning it with nail polish remover. Cleaned bottom of cooler with nail polish remover and then fitted ontop of processor.

Only connected the basics this time around - 80GB master HDD, DVD drive, 1 x GFX card and all relevant case and cpu fans.

Connected mains lead, hit the power switch on PSU and the green light lit up on the mobo.

Pressed power switch at front of case and still zippo.

Ive checked the connection for the power switch and have tried the obvious pin combination relating to the colour coding on the wires (blue and white) and got nothing. Tried changing it to match what it advises in the manual and still nothing.

Am I making a fundamental mistake somewhere? Im going to get my PSU tested at work tommorrow to eliminate that out of the equation. Luckily its still within warranty until September this year.

Any further advice would be much appreciated :)

Apologies again for the bump.

I have been advised to test my PSU by inserting a paperclip into the holes on the 24 pin molex that correspond to the green and black wire.

I have tested this and still nothing. I am wondering if I inserted the paperclip into the correct holes as I found the green wire and a black wire to the right of it. There are also 2 black wires to the left of it.

A very fundamental question but Id much rather make sure before I book it in under warranty :D

The pin numbers are 13 & 14 link these out and the power supply should start, place a fan on the of the molex's if you can to give the PSU some load.
