The family of a road-rage motorist were forced to flee their home after a video of his erratic and dangerous driving went viral, a court heard.

Anthony Cairns, 43, avoided going straight to prison ‘by a whisker’ after a judge handed him a suspended jail term.

My heart bleeds buckets of snot for him. This is just the incident he got caught by. How many times/people has he done this to previously ?

Boo hoo, welcome to the modern world where anything you do is likely to be captured on camera somewhere and your behaviour will be judged by the masses.

Disgraceful behaviour from him in the first place.

But losing his business and threats are a bit far. To many self righteous keyboard warriors around these days, it's nearly anarchy, he has got his punishment from the judge, a criminal record, and lost his license and the ''masses'' shouldn't be bothering him further.

People who are threatening him to the point where his wife and daughter can't live with him and he fears for his safety any more is uncalled for, imho the ''masses'' who do that are just as bad. Worthless ****s who lack any kind of empathy.

He got what he deserved, from the court of law, no need to lower yourself to his level go all barbaric/cave man on him. Idiots, the road rage behaviour does not justify the abuse he is getting.

It's only that social involvement that brought his behaviour to Police attention in the first place, though.

What, he fears for his own safety more than he feared for others' when he was leering out of his vehicle and not looking where he was driving?

'Back in my day', he'd have been dragged out of that van and seven shades would have been kicked from his worthless hide. This, at least, is more civilised.
Actually, back in my day, you wouldn't dream of behaving like this in the first place, for fear of everyone treating you like they just did this guy - The shame of merely thinking about doing it would have necessitated pulling over and having a bit of a sit down!!!

The statement in his defence was:
"For what he accepts was thirty seconds or so of crass stupidity, he has suffered four months of complete hell".

For what they accepted as a mere moment of stupidity, many other people have had to live the rest of their lives in complete hell... and since this guy and those around him can still walk, talk and breathe without being plugged in, I'd say he got off lightly.
It could have gone much worse.

As a driver of an articulated HGV I have absolutely zero sympathy for him, and the concequences of his actions.

He forgot the golden rule of driving any signwritten commercial vehicle - you are an ambassador of that business and have to act accordingly.

He did neither and has cost him his business, HIS business! The stupidity and danger of his actions is difficult to put into words, the concequences for other users of the M60 that day could have been far worse than his self inflicted hardship.

“But there was an element of provocation and those who have heard the audio can see and hear that things have been mouthed between the two of them.

From what I can hear from the video, the artic driver actually sounded quite chilled and took him for what he is - another laughable moron on the road - we encounter them day in, day out!

I personally think suspending his sentence was a mistake, morons like him should have the book thrown at them, I'm very dissapointed he's still out tonight.

Exactly mate, you know as well as I, drivers like that don't suddenly snap and react like this, this is indicitive of his type, thankfully though he picked on a dash cam equipped truck.....

I'm VERY glad all of my employers trucks have cameras which protect us from idiots like this.

I guess its not as rare an occurrence for an hgv driver working lots of jobs as it probably should be and so didn't stick in his mind

Whether he was goaded into it or provoked (we don't know, besides it could have been a mistake/accidental) it doesn't excuse that sort of behaviour - it's so dangerous stopping in a fast moving motorway. For what? What does he gain for doing that? He was lucky the truck driver was on the ball otherwise that could have ended badly for him - and potentially other road users. So selfish.

I'm not happy or jeering that he lost his business and has family troubles - but I really do hope he's learned his lesson.

Total idiot, I feel sorry for the rest of the family for what they've been through, but particularly with it being a family business it's something he should have been more aware of, if he did that in a couriers van (eg. DPD) he'd have been sacked.

I'm not keen on the threatening of him and his family, and I wonder just how many of those 'keyboard warriors' would actually say that to him and his family.

Begs the question - why didnt the HGV driver report it?

Strikes me he found it amusing, another idiot encountered but this time caught on camera.

As an HGV driver, crazy **** like this from other drivers comes as no surprise.
