hi all
I recently took the plunge to i7 940 with rampage ll extreme intel x58 and vista 64 bit and a 2 OCZ 30g SSD and 1, 1tb samsung spinpoint.

With that i did a raid 0 on the SSD and planned to have the 1tb as strorage

The SSD is for the OS and virus programs(anything to do with the OS) and the samsung for the rest like music, photos, and the bulk of the games that i play

Can i integrate the raid 0(SSD)and create a raid 1 with the samsung in any way when i tried it would not see the rest of the samsungs drive..only 64gb
if ,so how do i go about it, do i partition the samsung first ?

i must admit im a bit of a nub when it comes to vista as this is my first pc without XP

If not is there a way i can stop the programs on the samsung to stop minimising down onto the toolbar..where i have to either click like a mad man to get the drive to spin up and run the game or i need to do a restart to get the game to run

while i do not defrag the SSD drives will it still be ok to run defrag on the samsung?

one last question..on this MoB there is a AHCI controller with a JB micron controller should i not connect the samsung on to that rather than have it on the main sata connectors?

It is normally advisable to only use the same drives for raid.

If you really wanted to do something like this you would have to partition the f1 order order not to lose all of it. Your controller will then go at the speed of the slowest disk. It is then likely to perform really badly.

Youre welcome to set this up. The consequence will be that your rather fast ssd array will now run at the same speed as the Samsung drive would by itself.

Probably not a good call. Daily backups to the Samsung instead perhaps

Thanks for the fast reply

Well as it is im running the SSD as a raid 0 and the samsung as a solo disk :D as did not want to slow the SSD down with the samsung

The problem im getting is that when i start up a game which is stored on the samsung it will often just minimise on the login screen and will refuse to expand to full screen,so my thoughts are i have got something wrong and i dont know where.
should i put the samsung on the JB micron controller so that it will run separately from the raid controller or is it possible that the samsung spins down due to it not being involved in the running of the OS

If so how will i stop it doing that

i have an external hdd that i back up on and is unplugged most of the time

edit:hmm think its not the controller anymore or anything i have done..my samsung has been making some unusual noises ..s.m.a.r.t reports all ok ,but i suspect something is not all ok
