Hi all...

This is kind of a rant

I got my new iphone 2 weeks ago then after a week the screen cracked so I took it back and got a replacement..Now before I took the phone to the shop I formatted the phone..
Anyway 4 days later I get a call saying I could go and pick my new phone up as apple had replaced it..:):)

I plugged the new phone in to my my pc to activate and sync it etc and thought I would be spending the next few hours putting my contacts etc back in but nope iTunes did all this for (including text messages etc)..Now at the time I thought that was brill as it saved me hours but then it dawned on me, why are apple storing all my contacts/ texts?..
I don't like the thought of apple having all my details (well its the texts cus there are some pretty hot ones between me and my girlfriend).
I know they wont do anything with them but still surely they cant just store this kind of thing?

The backup is stored in a local file on your hard drive, so I doubt Apple sees or cares about the contents :)

You can delete them in iTunes Preferences > Devices. I've done that when I want to start fresh after putting on a new firmware.

Its stored on your local PC within itunes, you can turn all that off under the options for the iPhone in itunes.
I'm pretty sure it isn't transferring all your contacts and text's to apple for them to look at lol

Huh?

Apple came round your house and went through the backup file in your computer to read your text messages that were backed up?

Haha, didn't read your post properly. I thought you left the texts on the phone that went back. Apple don't look at your backup on iTunes, that's private to you.

What your suggesting is as equal as it would be to say that because safari is made (kinda) by apple that they can see what you look at or that because they made your phone they can listen in on your calls, the backups are stored (optionally) on your hard drive, or you can choose to not have a backup and you would have lost all your data, I think you should be greatful normally cracked screens are not covered by warrenty so I think you have done all right out of this in my opinion.
