have been wanting one for a while but only now starting to look.

have seen - Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 4096MB - which seems decent enough performance for the price but does it do 4k?

i don't want 4k for gaming (1080p would be enough), but more for being able to output at that res @ 60hz without hassle. it just says hdmi on the OCUK page not v2 but has displayport

also, currently i have a 6950 (bios flashed to 6970) and wondering if it's doable now to have both work in CF or would microstuttering be a PITA?

the other reason for keeping it was for bitcoin mining possibilities.

sorry for the Qs, haven't looked at cards since i bought the 6950

I'd recommend holding off if you can. New cards will soon be on the horizon. At which point secondhand cards of this gen will be going cheap if you don't fancy a new model.

Crossfire: no, you'd need 2x the same series of card. So 2 x 290 or 1 x 6970 + 1 x 6950 would work.

IIRC the 290 can only do 4k @ 60 hz using display port.

GTX 970 has HDMI 2 as standard so should be little hassle for outputting 4K at 60Hz. Great card but shame it's a bit pricey compared to R9 290. Would be sweet if there was a card from NVIDIA to compete with the 290 on price.
