Not sure what CPU is the best for gaming? PCGH has you covered

I hear you mate :(
However, at 4.7ghz mine doesn't exactly struggle and is still going strong.
Wait for the 4000 series.

4.6GHz on my 4820K along with some decent RAM (quad channel doesn't hurt either) - at 1440p I've only found about 2 games (which I'm not interested in) where it isn't more than adequate - usually I'm more GPU limited in newer stuff if anything. Albeit some games like The Division 2 (which I don't play anyhow) was only running at around 60 FPS with a mix of high and 1-2 ultra settings but that is GPU limited - only uses about 30-40% CPU load.

Makes it very hard to justify upgrading but this rig is getting on for 7 years old now :(

I do kind of wish I'd gone for a little more feature heavy motherboard and a 4930K as I probably wouldn't even bother upgrading for awhile yet.

Yeah, TD2 is one that I suffer with as well but other games are ok. I just blame Massive for it :D

I know what you mean though, I'm going to wait it out until 4000 series as that'll probably give me the biggest boost in performance but keep the 4790k for an ITX build in my Evolv X.

I don't have problems with performance in it, though for some reason some people do seeming at random, it is just that the performance is "adequate" at around 60 FPS, unless I sacrifice quality, rather than the well over 60 FPS I prefer to have.

EDIT: That said I only played the beta and a bit of a free weekend - unless they completely change some things like the movement I will never invest in that title.

I put 500 or so hours into it, it's not terrible with a 2070s and 35" @ 1440p but I totally know what you mean. I don't tend to get anything more than 70fps but it's not like it's unplayable. The movement was always an issue, more so after they tried to fix the "chicken dance" from TD1 and totally screwed the movement in TD2. They did eventually "fix" it.

Last time I played was still often running 2-3 steps on from where I was aiming for, too often like trying to turn a boat around when moving quickly through areas, etc. it just isn't fun to play with especially how good TD1 movement was before the 1.8 patch where it had a nice responsive flowing feel to it and one of the reasons I got into TD1 as the movement was so much nicer than so many games coming out at the time - sadly for them to then change it for the worse a few months later.
