OK i wanna be able to shut my wireless router down at 11pm but only the wireless side of it. Keep finding my son using his laptop at stuipid times in the morning would like to teach him a lesson tonight by shutting it down at 11pm while he's talking to his friends. Any ideas how it can be done. his laptop uses XP SP3 if it was windows 7 i could sort it out. Even if i have to do it manually from my desktop wired connection i'll do that but if you have any better ideas let me know.

It should all be in the router manual I believe if you still have it as I had to do the same myself a month or two ago. A quick Google search though suggests putting http://192.168.0.1 in to your web browser might work then try the username 'virgin' and password as 'password'. However, when I did it, I'm sure it was different to that (a different router I think to the suggestion I found). I think the username I used was 'admin' and the password box was just left blank? If that ip address above doesn't work, open up a command prompt on a computer connected to the router and type 'ipconfig /all' then find the default gateway entry. Then in your internet browser address bar enter http:// followed by your default gateway ip address. If that doesn't work, try changing the last number to a 1 if it isn't already. You might have to have a wired connection to the router to access this page. I forget.

Harsh.

Normally typing the default router IP (192.168.1.1) into the web browser should allow access to the router. Username is likely to be 'admin' and the password 'password'.

Failing that, Virgin support may be a help. Though I doubt it.

Im not sure that many routers that you get free from your internet proviver would have the option to limit wi-fi to certain times, it seems a little advanced, but it's worth logging into the router to check.

You should be able to log in and manualy enable/disable it though.

Yeah i have the same router, its the ip followed by password and blank. it lets you change time settings also.

remember to update us on his response!:D

typical router pages are (type this into firefox/IE)
192.168.x.1, where x is 0, 1 or 2

as mentioned, if prompted for a login, its usually something generic like user, admin, password, virgin, or just leaving it blank works on mine.

then have a look around for wireless settings and it should be fairly straightforward from there. If the router doesnt have an option to turn wireless on and off, blocking certain PCs from a network is a fairly bogstandard featuer (albeit no timer). Look for something like MAC address control
