basically i have a problem when ever i try to play a DVD i get this message and i have no idea how to fix it

Is it a copied DVD?
Try it on Media player classic or VLC

Have you tried installing the latest driver for your video card?...

Go to the website of the card's company and they should offer driver updates under support or something similar...

Its a weird one isn't it something to do with regions, have you tried using other programs to play it, and can you access the files in explorer?

This would probably go better in the windows section, but then theres hardware I spose, can't see it having anything todo with your DVDdrive or GPU tho.

no i have about 150 legit dvds i've tried with punisher,avp,lotr, all say the same thing

my 5770 drivers are the latest from ati

in regards to region setting i've never had to set them so i don't know what thats about

Have you installed a codec pack, or are you running it with the vanilla Win 7 ones?

vanilla windows 7 as far as i'm aware.

is there an original codec pack incase something is messed up

Has it ever worked, or is it a recent problem (since installing drivers for example)? Last time I was using a PC to play DVDs (which admitedly was years ago), you would have to find the drive in device manager and select a region for it (i.e. 2 for us in the UK) or it wouldn't play anything. But then the error message was a bit more specific than yours. Are DVD playing drives still region locked nowadays?

I'd suggest installing this, then the x64 components.

+1 For checking in device manager that the DVD drive is set to region 2 (europe) or whatever region your disks are.

WMP is turd, stick with VLC or Media Player Classic. If you want to get it working get the latest version and something like K-Lite Codec Pack

Keeping an eye on this thread. I had this error on my laptop whilst watching 24. Was fine one minute but got this the next. A quick Ccleaner and reboot sorted it but never got to the bottom of the problem.

thanks man it worked a treat just scanned and clean the reg restarted and bish,bash,bosh it works fine

before i tried that i had tried a few normal resets and a power down but the CCleaner seemed to do the trick nicely

now time to investigate actually why it happens
