Not sure which iPhone to get.

Hi everyone,

Right, I've never owned an iPhone before - The last phone I had was a Nokia 6300 and I want to upgrade to an iPhone.. I've seen that the 4s has just come out and it's left me completely puzzled as to whether I should just go for that or get the 4 or 3GS? My justification for getting an iPhone is that I have used them before and enjoy using the interface.

I also want to play games on my phone (It has been suggested to me in the past that iPhone is generally to superior to Android for gaming) which would suggest I get the iPhone 4s for the Dual-Core Processor.. But I'm not really sure, I mean - Will the 4 and 3GS still be able to run all games perfectly? The one I'm looking out for is Football Manager 2012... However my primary uses will just be calls, texts and Facebook really... I'm not all that interested in Siri..

Thanks,

Azure

Football Manager runs comfortably on an iPhone 4 which use's the A4 single core chip.

From what you've said, a 4 is good for your needs but it depends whether or not your going to enter a lengthy contract with one. The 4 is technically out of date now and will be even more so in 18-24 months, where as the 4S won't be so much.

Are you wanting contract or PAYG? That would be the deciding factor for me.

I'd buy a 4 personally.

I don't think the 4S has much over the 4 to be spending £100+ more on it.

Find an in warranty iP4, add the second year Applecare on it and bobs your uncle!

Hmmmmm.... Good points you've both raised there.. Thanks for the replies!

And Steve - I want to buy the phone outright and use one of the GiffGaff SIM cards for £10 a month.. I dont want to be tied down to a contract really!

Oh.. And I do want to be able to run any games that come out in the future too... I'm just worried that a 4 might not be able to run games that come out in say... 8 months? All that well..

Ok then so its all down to how much your willing to spend.

IP4's can be had from £300 right up to £500+ dependant on model and warranty, where as a 16gb IP4S will set you back over £400.

Personally i'd get a good example of an IP4 and save the rest of the cash for the IP5 :D

So you'd buy a second hand iP4 rather than buying a brand new one from the Apple Store?

The iP4 is no slouch. There will be games that can only run on the 4S and iPad2, but I imagine that these will be few and far between as frankly who wants to restrict their target market to only people that own the latest Apple mobile devices.

Grab yourself a second-hand iP4 and then next year when the iPhone5 comes out then upgrade. That's what I'm doing anyway!

Any suggestions as to where I could pick up a Second-hand iP4?

I bought mine off eBay and paid £320 for an absolutely mint unlocked 32GB with 9 months warranty remaining. I might have paid slightly above the odds but I stuck with a seller with perfect feedback to try and minimise complications.

Get the iPhone 4s mate, that's what I did. Seems quicker than the 4 and it's main focus is on games and camera (which is awesome by the way)

The iPhone 4 has problems with the antenna and don't let anyone tell you any different.

Always cutting out in calls etc etc.. My new iPhone 4s has not done this once.

For that I will stick to my choice and I would take it every time.

P.s I have been on Giffgaff for nearly 2yrs now and have a sim in my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2.

Aren't you worried you'll have over-spent when the iP5 comes out? Or will you just happily sell your 4s? ^^

How?

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5?
How could you forget the iPhone 2G? Best looking iPhone IMO

I just meant the naming system, it may be the sixth phone but they won't call it the iPhone 6 as there hasn't been one called iPhone 5 yet.
