The analogue gauge being discussed here is I think the instant mpg gauge you find in BMWs (and prolly other cars) which is meant to give you an indication of how efficiently (and eco-friendly, lol) you are driving at any point in time, ie it doesnt maintain any history.
The digital gauge is in the OBC and tracks average MPG until you reset it.
Well thats how they work in my car anyway. The analogue gauge just tells me when I have the accelerator pressed down I am using more fuel, hardly a revelation!
