Nottingham: Areas to live in

Wollaton or Beeston, rest is iffy lol

Gotta say, if she's studying at QMC then Mapperley is a hell of a trek, especially at rush hour times or by foot/bike. Beeston or Wollaton would certainly be better, and much closer too.

It really depends what your budget is, and how close/far you want to be from either the QMC or the city centre. There's some really nice suburbs in the Nottingham area but they can be expensive to live in.

Do you have transport, and how long are you willing to commute?

I live in Woodthorpe, lovely here! Before that I was on Devon Drive in sherwood, got out while Sherwood was turning ugly(er)

Mansfield Road is allright, there aren't that many ****ty houses on it, a lot of huge houses in carrington.

Beeston is a souless crappy place. Dunkirk is close to the uni and full of students.

Wollaton possibly or is that too far out ?

Could always slum it with the students in Lenton, loved the place, especially having our own gate into the Happy Return by our front door and being behind the Bag o Nails :D

Beeston is not great, my mate's missus was manager of the KFC until a few weeks ago, 4 armed robberies in a year

That seems to be a running theme for KFCs in Nottingham. The one on Alfreton Road got held up several times before closing down.

I can't say I ever had or saw any trouble in Beeston whilst I was living there. Rylands in particular is a nice estate, and heading out towards chilwell and what not has some really nice areas too.

I've lived in the West Bridgford, Edwalton, Rudington and Gamston areas for most of my life... They're all nice.

...and extremely expensive. :D

If you want to live full time in Nottingham, Rushcliffe is the place to be but it's ridiculously expensive. Gamston and Tollerton and both beautiful places.

Beeston is 50/50 - some of it is a dive, other parts fine, but close to QMC.

A lot of people go on about Lenton being terrible, mainly as it's the student hub, but I lived just off Faraday Road there for a few years and it was THE quietest place I've EVER lived. Sandwiched right between dodgy places, like, but never had a single spot of bother.

The trouble with these threads is that what one person considers to be nice another may consider to be a scummy hell hole.

I've lived for the last 6 years in a quiet cul-de-sac off Gauntley street behind Radford Road Police Station. It's just north of Hyson Green which is not a great area but not as bad as some but I haven't had any real issues and when people come to visit they are normally amazed how quiet it is. It's also <5 mins from two tram stops and a main bus route as well as being easy to get out to the M1. So there are reasonable areas around but you have to look for them.

West Bridgeford is supposed to be quite nice, but I think everyone I know who lives there has had a problem, or been burgled, at some point. Beeston is supposedly nice in parts, but pretty crummy in others.

West Bridgford (and surroundings) is the best area, its quite too pricey but it does have a large range of properties - student flats near trent bridge to 6/7 beds with swimming pools near edwalton

Hope thats sarcasm!! :p

I lived on the edge of st annes -edge of the park by victoria leisure centre (terrace off robin hood street overlooking the park)

Ever frequent the Bath Inn. My grandparents used to own that and i spent some of my kiddie years wrestling the near emtpy pint glass from the hands of Mick McMannus (old time wrestler).

Just thought i'd mention it.

I was but was born in Chilwell, dragged up in Brinsley and Eastwood, started a family in Arnold, moved to Bestwood Park when divorced (f.f.s. fon't go there!), joined the gf in Cotrgave, rented in West Bridgford, now settled in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Have you thought about renting in the city centre? My mate has a 2 bedroom flat next to the ice stadium, costs £550pcm. Its really warm and he loves it. Great view overlooking London Road roundabout  and all amenities are on your doorstep. However, in this particular block there are no allowances for parking.

I live in the lacemarket too, the problem is for a place with parking your looking at £50-70 on the rent.
