I have replaced the 5400rpm 2.5” HDD in my wife’s Acer 8935G laptop with a 60GB Corsair Nova 2 SSD

The performance is absolutely dreadful, write speeds barely exceeding 10MB a second, and constantly getting system hangs.

It took ages to install Windows, and installing any program takes much longer than it should

The BIOS is set to AHCI, and everything seems to be set up correctly I have the latest intel SATA / AHCI drivers installed and my OS is fully up to date with SP1

SSD is on firmware 1.0.

Basically, the machine was much faster when it had the original 5400rpm HDD in it!

Nothing in the event viewer pertaining to disk problems, and an SSD health check doesn't show any problems

Anything I can try before I return it and purchase an OCZ Vertex 2?

I've got SSDs in other machines, and they are all lightning fast. This is my first Corsair SSD

thanks

Is the firmware version on the SSD the latest one? If not I would try updating the firmware.

Have you also tried testing the SSD on another computer to test the speeds on there?

Have you owned the drive from new?

I remember the first time I installed Vista on my SSD and speed met my expectations. But when I came to do a reinstall months later, without doing a secure erase, it took ages to reinstall Vista. I was so concerned I cancelled my first retry, as I couldn't believe amount of time it was taking.

Don’t know if lack of secure erase was problem. But will definitely prepare SSD before next reinstall attempt.

Edit: Just to be clear by my meaning of new. I meant brand new and not B grade or a like.
