That is truly awsome, but really, you don't need to focus on the Wii aspect of it. The reason he's using a Wii remote and sensor bar is that they are incredibly cheap and already assembled, calibrated, etc. He's not using a Wii console at all in any of his video demonstrations, he's using a pc with the Wii remote connected via Bluetooth.
So personally i'm excited about the possibilties of all platformsIt doesn't need to be the Wii2...
Somebody tell him about Dragons Deb 'cos with the right patents and investment, that idea will be utterly huge.
This was patented literally over a decade ago.
It's a very old and well documented technology, it's just the fact that it uses dirt cheap Wii components that makes it exciting.
Yeah the really cool thing about it is that all you need is a Wii controller and an IR source and you can try it out for yourself.
OK, I downloaded the software and had a go at this earlier today. I actually sellotaped the sensor bar to a baseball cap and I looked like a complete tit, Mrs D's exact words were 'You really are a geek aren't you'
Anyway, I must admit, after seeing the video the real-life experience is a bit dissapointing. It works really well, but it just doesn't 'pop' out of the screen like in the video, and unless you are moving your head about it still looks flat (as expected).
When you move your head it is pretty good though, it does look as if you can put your hand right into the screen, but it's a shame it just doesn't 'pop' out like in the vid![]()
