Hi guys, not sure is this is the right place or not.

My mate has given me his netbook to fix. And on start-up, the above happens. It says I need to re-install the file or something. But as this is a netbook and has no cd-drive, how would I go about doing this? Has anybody experienced this before?

Thanks.

Can you get into safemode?

If not, put Windows onto a USB stick and boot from that. Plenty of instructions on how to do so if you Google it.

Use YUMI to chuck ubuntu on a usb stick.

From here, copy off the files you want to backup.

Now either figure out which Windows it is, or ask the owner. Then google 'windows x install from USB' and follow that guide

Look at the COA to ascertain the windows version, I'd also recommend running a drive diagnostic to make it is in good health before attempting to repair it. Often see these sort of issues fixed simply by running a chkdsk /r too. If those fail move on to replacing the files or doing a repair install.

Thanks for the reply, however I have no idea how to do these things! Care to re-write for a software noob?:p

Have a look at googleing 'hiren boot cd usb' and then 'hiren ntoskrnl', plenty of possible hits and ways to look at potential fixes.

ntoskrnl, is weird one sometimes, I've even seen it fixed by replacing corrupt registry files in the past.

Thanks man, will check it out.

Right, I have got hirens on a usb stick. I ran Minixp and did a drive check thingy and that didn't work. Now I'm lost! Any ideas on what I can do?

Cheers
