What do you use for your NTP server?

I'm just poking one of my ProCurve 1810 switches and noticed that unlike my router and computers it insists on having an IP address for the NTP server... it won't accept a domain like pool.ntp.org :(.

Why don't you use the IP address that resolves to the domain pool.ntp.org?

Pinging pool.ntp.org resolves the IP

"131.188.3.220"

Will still go to the same place

pool.ntp.org is a pool.... so using the IP leaves you open to a failed server should it be pulled from the pool.

Does your ISP not have one? It may not be a stratum 1, but a stratum 2 should be sufficient.

If not, simply set a Windows or Unix box up with NTP software, set that to the uk.pool.ntp.org address and connect your switch back to that box on it's IP.
